CHEROKEE NATIONAL FOREST CAMPING
The Ocoee Ranger District of the Cherokee National Forest offers a variety of opportunities for outdoor recreational activities. Below is a list of the campgrounds in the Cherokee National Forest located in the Ocoee River area of Tennessee. Campsites are available on first-come, first-served basis. All campsites accommodate tent camping. Depending on location, many accommodate varying sizes of trailers or motor home. Directions included with site description below.
CHILHOWEE
88 Campsites, swimming areas, hiking trails, bicycle trails, non-motorized boating, wildlife trails, Benton Falls trail. Facilities are trailer dump station, flush toilets, cold water showers, bathhouse, drinking water, picnic tables, and grills. Chilhowee is open from May 1 through Nov 1. The 48 sites are on a first-come, first-served basis. Overnight camping fee is $12/night per campsite with 5 persons per campsite. From Cleveland TN, take US 64 East about 15 miles and turn on FS Road 77 (adjacent to Ranger Station). Go up the mountain about 7 miles to the campground.
PARKSVILLE LAKE
41 sites (17 family-24 group), boating, fishing, hiking, and bicycling. Facilities are flush toilets, warm water showers, drinking water, picnic tables, and grills. Family sites open year-round; group sites open from 5/1 through 11/1.Prices range from $15.00 to $42.00 depending on the site and the number of people. From Cleveland TN, take US 64 East about 18 miles. Turn left on HWY 30. Go about ¼ mile to the campground.
THUNDER ROCK
42 campsites on upper Ocoee River upstream from put-in point for whitewater rafting. Facilities are drinking water, vault toilets, picnic tables, and grills. Open year-round. From Cleveland TN, take US 64 East about 28 miles to Ocoee Number 3 Powerhouse. Turn right and go across the concrete bridge. Follow road around powerhouse and take the first right into the campground.
